This tour will show you the jewels of New York. The Water Taxi cruises down the East River from South Street Seaport around the Battery and past such awe-inspiring vistas as the lower Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Along this itinerary, the tour highlights the national parks that preserve our history, like Castle Clinton and Fort Wadsworth, as well as natural wonders, including soaring eagles that have re-established nests here and pigeon-hunting peregrine falcons.
Sharing untold stories and offering fascinating insights, the audio tour features interviews with National Park Service rangers who serve at the region's national parks, as well as with experts on the history, culture and ecology of the region. The tour includes the story of George Washington's legendary retreat, which saved the Colonial army during the Revolutionary War, and explains how 19th century fortifications were constructed to protect the harbor from invasion. It recounts the experiences of immigrants who arrived here and the critically important accomplishments of the workers who labored on the harbor's shores.
