Overview:

As you explore the architecture and flora in the "South of Broad" residential district, your expert guide will highlight the most colorful stories of the Charlestonians who have lived in these majestic southern homes.

Along the way, you will visit and enjoy interior tours of two of the city's most important mansions, both of which are National Historic Landmarks. Your first call will be the Edmondston-Alston House (c.1825) overlooking the famous "High Battery" and Charleston Harbor. The Edmondston-Alston House is a repository of family treasures, including Alston family silver, furniture, books and paintings that remain in place much as they have been for over a century and a half. There is an exquisite collection of prints and other artifacts collected on Alston family trips abroad.

Via the canopied streets and hidden alleys of Charleston's most exclusive residential neighborhoods, you will also visit the Nathaniel Russell House (c.1808). The graceful interior with elaborate plasterwork ornamentation, geometrically shaped rooms and a magnificent free-flying staircase are among the most exuberant ever created in early America.

For visitors seeking a glimpse of Charleston's elegance and majestic past, this two hour tour is not to be missed!
