Overview:

Classic Revival Style BuildingsLongue Vue features Classical Revival style buildings and landscaped gardens, a magnificent collection of European and American decorative and fine arts pieces, museum exhibits, entertaining tours, educational programs, and a delightful museum shop.

The Classical Revival mansion was built in 1942 by Edgar Stern, a New Orleans cotton broker and Edith Stern, an heir to the Sears Roebuck fortune. The house features the original antique furnishings and an extensive decorative arts collection.

The eight acres of horticultural wonder was created by Ellen Biddle Shipman, "the dean of American women landscape architects". There are nine separate gardens with seasonal flowers always in bloom.

For kids and adults of all ages, walk into the Discovery Garden through the bamboo tunnel and see the vegetables growing, smell the herbs, turn the compost bin and dig for worms.

Visit the Gift Shop for home decor, gifts for the garden, and reproductions of their decorative arts collection.

Longue Vue is also listed on the National Register of Historical Places of which there are only 2500 in the United States and is accredited by the American Association of Museums.
