was a
pirate?
Learn about their antics and exploits, as well as the naval tactics
they employed to commandeer ships and strike fear in the hearts of
their victims.
In fact, there was a time that the bustling Charleston seaport was
frequented by many famous pirates more often associated with the
Caribbean.
Your guide will take you to sites where pirates once caroused with
their mates, were imprisoned, and where they were hanged.
Among the most fascinating aspects of Charleston's heritage was
piracy, and this intriguing tour will change your perspective of the
city.
During your tour, you will hear the story of Major Stede Bonnet, the
"gentleman pirate," who was one of the most interesting but least
successful sea pirates.
Listen to the legend of the infamous pirate Blackbeard. The notorious
English pirate, had a short reign of terror in the Caribbean Sea
between 1716 and 1718, during a period of time referred to as the
Golden Age of Piracy. His best known vessel was the Queen Anne's
Revenge, which is believed by some to have run aground near Beaufort
Inlet, North Carolina in 1718. He kept headquarters in both the
Bahamas and the Carolinas and roamed the waters around Charleston.
You will learn why Charleston was called "The Walled City" and hear
the fascinating and exciting stories of Captain Kidd, Anne Bonny, "The
Red Sea Men", and other aspects of Pirate life.
