Savannah Historic Homes Tour

Savannah has charmed visitors for centuries with her history, architecture and famous hospitality.

With this tour, you will:

bullet Explore the rich architectural heritage that spans two centuries
bullet See the Owens-Thomas House and Meldrim House
bullet Walk through the heart of the Historic District
bullet Experience the South's famous hospitality
bullet Tour the Isaiah Davenport House Museum

Overview:

It was the famous writer, William Makepeace Thackeray, who described Savannah as "...a tranquil old city, wide-streeted, tree-planted, with a few cows and carriages toiling through the sandy roads...no row, no tearing northern bustle, no ceaseless hotel racquet" upon his stay in one of Savannah's fine homes.

With the possible exception of the cows in the roads, little has changed in Savannah since Thackery's visit. The same charm he wrote about lives on in this enchanting walk through the heart of the Historic District that takes you inside one of Savannah's many beautiful Historic Homes, and focuses on the rich architectural heritage of Savannah's domestic dwellings.

One of the places you'll see on this tour is the Owens-Thomas House, widely regarded as the premiere example of regency architecture in the United States, and learn about the achievements of architect William Jay. You'll also see the Green Meldrim House, where Gen. William T. Sherman was a "guest" during the Civil War. Other house highlights includes discussions on the development of domestic dwellings in Savannah, from colonial times to the present, featuring fine examples of architecture that span two centuries.

This tour includes admission to The Isaiah Davenport House Museum, one of the finest examples of federal architecture in the south, the origin of preservation in Savannah, and the birthplace of the Historic Savannah Foundation.

No visit to Savannah would be complete without this unique tour that focuses on Savannah's stateliest mansions and their residents, and highlights the city's movement and contribution to historic preservation in our time.

Come, walk through history...
book your reservation and be charmed by Savannah herself!
