Travel south to Tucson, often referred to as "The Old Pueblo". One of Arizona's earliest settlements, Tucson is an eclectic collection of new and old. There is a rest break at Picacho Peak.
The tour stops at Saguaro National Park to view a forest of the stately saguaro cactus. These desert sentinels are Arizona icons and can grow to over 50 feet with a multitude of arms. The photo opportunities here are spectacular. You'll see saguaros for as far as the eye can see!
Next, visit the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. The term museum seems an unlikely match for this collection of plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert. Guests stroll along desert pathways to view such creatures as the desert bighorn sheep, mountain lions, lizards, hummingbirds, rattlesnakes and many more. There are also wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. You'll have time to enjoy the exhibits and lunch on your own at their cafe.
The tour continues into the heart of downtown Tucson to learn about the area's rich Spanish and Native American history. A stop will be made at Old Town Artisans in the historic El Presidio district. This 150-year old historic adobe building houses distinctive shops and galleries, a charming courtyard and restaurants.
Return to Phoenix by early evening.
