Here is what you can SEE and EXPERIENCE at the New England Aquarium...
Within its compact exhibit space, the Aquarium shows off everything from a lumbering, 500-pound sea turtle, to a tapestry of colorful tropical fish. The spectacular Giant Ocean Tank is at the center of the aquarium and encircled by 3 levels of exhibits, galleries, displays and thousands of sea creatures from hundreds of different species. The Aquarium's scores of other tanks are well-designed side trips.
Stop by the penguin exhibit. It spans the ground floor, contains more than 150,000 gallons of filtered Boston Harbor seawater, and is home to the African, rockhopper and little blue penguin colonies.
Then it's off to the Boston Harbor Island Beach Exhibit, where birds scamper along an authenticated sandy shoreline, while soles burrow in the sand and lumpfish swim in the surf.
The Gulf of Maine Exhibit, featuring such local mainstays as Atlantic cod and halibut, rare blue and golden lobsters, and the notoriously ugly monkfish (or goosefish), might be your next stop.
