The guides are assembled from a truly remarkable group of naturalists, doctors of ornithology and world renowned herpetologists to escort you into one of the most beautiful and unique places on earth - The Everglades.
The Everglade Day Safari is a full day of adventure and includes:
Airboat Ride - Take a ride on the wild side! Explore a 1500 acre inland lake where more alligators per acre reside than anywhere in the world. For one hour you will be surrounded by more wildlife than you can ever imagine. It is a remarkable ride.
Wildlife Drive - This part of the tour takes you along back roads into Big Cypress Preserve, the 780,000 acre national park which was purchased by the federal government in the 70's. This is primarily a fresh water area and home to a vast array of plants and animal wildlife. You never know what will show up!
Southern Lunch - This great Southern lunch is consumed with gusto at the Seafood Depot. This 1928, Spanish-style stucco structure began as the old Everglades train depot. The building has housed numerous restaurants and appeared in the movie 'Winds across the Everglades'. You are sure to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Fodor's has given the Seafood Depot an excellent rating of 5.
Boat Ride - This relaxing 90 minute boat ride departs from Everglades National Park and works its way through the 10,000 Islands to the Gulf of Mexico. On this fully narrated ride, dolphin, manatees and many shore birds are usually seen. The very important ecosystem - the mangrove estuaries - is discussed at length.
Nature Walk - These walks are leisurely strolls into the cypress swamp area of the Everglades. These are fresh water areas which are home to the very rare Florida panther, bear, otter, mink, deer and feral pigs. Old growth cypress trees, ferns and bromeliads abound.
