This tour is a narrated history of Paula Deen. As you wind through the
Savannah Historic District, conductors will point out specific points
of interest related to Paula and her family and story.
Deen's appeal is part sass and part rags-to-riches story. Nearly two
decades ago, she found herself battling agoraphobia, newly divorced
and new to Savannah, Ga., with two teenage sons and few job prospects.
She started the Bag Lady, selling lunches to the downtown business
crowd, which by 1990 was parlayed into a successful restaurant called
the Lady & Sons. Today, it's a major tourist attraction.
Along the way, she's had two successful Food Network shows; authored
four cookbooks and a best-selling memoir; launched a second restaurant
- Uncle Bubba's Oyster House, her own bimonthly magazine and the Paula
Deen Collection of cookware and food products by Smithfield.
This tour also includes buffet lunch at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House on
beautiful Whitmarsh Island. Each guest will get a voucher for
"preferred seating" at either Lady and Son's or Uncle Bubba's Oyster
House.
