An informative and interactive half-day tour filled with American history, the tour starts with a visit to Old Town Alexandria, George Washington's adopted home. From there, you'll explore George Washington's former estate, Mount Vernon. The entrance includes a host of colonial-era buildings, beautiful gardens, and a museum and visitor center

Your half-day excursion begins as you board your luxury motor coach for a day filled with American history dating back to the American Colonial Era. We will depart the Nation's Capital for the State of Virginia, where you will begin our adventure with a visit to Old Town Alexandria!

Dating back to the early 1700s, Old Town Alexandria played a significant role in early American history. However, it is mostly known for being the adopted hometown of America's first President, George Washington. Gray Line will provide an in-depth overview of the town's historical facts, show you its cobblestoned streets lined with historic buildings. We will visit Christ Church, where both George Washington and Robert E. Lee, had regularly attended services.

After exploring Old Town Alexandria, we will depart for George Washington's Mount Vernon. The 10-mile journey to George Washington's former estate will take you along the scenic Potomac River, where you will learn the importance it had during the era, all while viewing some of the regions' scenery and sites like the 200-year-old Fort Washington.

Once at Mount Vernon, you will gain access to the estate. The entrance onto the grounds of Mount Vernon includes a host of colonial-era buildings, beautiful gardens, and a working distillery and gristmill. The estate's Museum and Education Center feature hundreds of artifacts, movies, a 4D theater, and an interactive theater that introduces visitors to the real George Washington. Don't forget to check out the gift shop to bring home a piece of history!

Please note that due to social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC, at the moment Mount Vernon has currently discontinued the Mansion Tour for the time being. We will attempt to provide updates when new developments occur however you're more than welcome to contact Gray Line DC to obtain the most recent update as to when the Mansion Tours will restart.

Tour departs 8:00am. Daily: April 1 - October 31
Friday, Saturday & Sundays: November 1 - March 31. Contact Gray Line DC between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm EST at least 24 hours before your tour date to arrange hotel pickup where available. If you plan to arrive at Union Station on your own, we kindly ask that you please arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled tour time.
Tours do not operate on Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Years Day.

Notes:

Directions to find the Gray Line kiosk inside Union Station are as follows. Once you enter Union Station proceed to the escalators at the rear of the building, near gate C. Head up the escalator, turn left and proceed to the second escalator to the Bus Level. Once at the top of the second escalator turn left just before the third escalator, look for the Gray Line/Peter Pan building. If you plan to arrive at Union Station on your own, we kindly ask that you please arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled tour time.
